What does a chocolate manufacturer and a pork manufacturer have in common?

The answer is: Technology that can trace Salmonella – or more precisely speaking, the fastest technology on the market to trace Salmonella with only 5.5 hours from sample to result. The company behind this technology is called DNA Diagnostic A/S.

DNA Diagnostic with 15 employees is among the frontrunners, when it comes to tracing Salmonella. Among DNA Diagnostic’s customers are some of the larger food companies within the Danish Food Cluster, but the technology is relevant for more than just the meat industry.

“We target the Salmonella detection method at food companies and laboratories that perform tests for food companies, since the Salmonella bacteria can be found in everything from meat to vegetables and chocolate,” says Tina Mygind, Development & Production Manager at DNA Diagnostic.

From Salmonella to productivity

The core of DNA Diagnostic’s solutions is an enzyme-based method called polymerase chain reaction that can amplify the amount of bacterial DNA to make them traceable. All of the DNA Diagnostic solutions are produced under ISO 13485-certification and the Salmonella method is Nordval certified. Besides tracing Salmonella, DNA Diagnostic also helps companies within the veterinary industry increase the productivity of cows. The DNA Diagnostic PCR methods can trace bacteria that cause mastitis and bacteria that trigger high total bacterial count in milk.

A central meeting place in the food industry

DNA Diagnostic has a large customer base within the food industry and Danish Food Cluster offers a central meeting spot within the industry.

“We have customers of small and large scale within many branches of the food industry, and we see Danish Food Cluster as the right platform to network and create relationships with potential collaborators,” says Mogens Sønderup, CEO at DNA Diagnostic.
